Gotta die #2: I’m an ostrich

Esther is a confused human being

“You should start your own. You just need people and money!” My friend commented as I demoed my latest prototype on my learning product.

My learning demo

This learning demo is very close to a shitty Brilliant, an education company that teaches you to learn through fun interactive elements. When I demo, I realized my growth in technical skills, my mindset of building a feature a day, and the assistance of AI, have allowed me to build things that are close to an actual product.

Learning a product isn’t rocket science, you don’t need super hard technical skills, but you need to know how to build a good product. I don’t know how to build good products yet, but I know I might have decent taste in learning that most people don’t have.

However, I really need a full-time job now. The stress of owing 16K is growing, and the money I owe is growing.

Why are all the doors f**king closed for me? For the education companies I want to join, they don’t hire. For the medium companies size companies I apply, I ended up getting rejected. But it’s very very weird, because throughout the interview, I learned that I’m very good. I’m not a person who usually says I’m good, but I really knew I was so good after that interview. Why am I so…unlucky? That doesn’t make much sense.

“Maybe you shouldn’t apply anymore. You now have the skills and the passion. You should start your own.” my friend said.

“Huh…but I just need a little dose of luck to get a job. A tiny tiny dose.” I replied.

”Look. You did get a job you love right? It’s just not in the US. This path that you keep trying in the US doesn’t work. You might want to try another,” she followed up.

Oh right. I did get a job. But, I don’t know men and women. I only want to do it 3 years from now.

“You are in Minerva. Though many alumni got a job, many of them are doing startups. Also, your school is built for education. Many people around you are doing education. You already have a big existing network. Like Alberto will be so happy to help and fund you. You just need to tap into it.”

I don’t know men and women. Sounds a bit scary. I don’t think I’m ready to talk to Alberto at all.

“I’m pretty sure there is always a way to build your stuff and have money. You are in Silicon Valley. It’s about whether you are willing to commit and to raise funds.”

I don’t knooooow men and women. I do have the passion, and it seems that I do have some skills, but I don’t want to begin. Esther today is no longer a human being. She is an ostrich. She is going to bed. Goodnight!
